📜 History of Girei

Girei Local Government was created in 1981 during the administrative reorganization of Adamawa State. It is located in the central part of the state and shares boundaries with Mubi North, Song, and Fufore LGAs. The area is predominantly inhabited by the Fulani people, with strong traditional institutions centered around the Girei Chiefdom. Historically, Girei served as a trade and agricultural hub, known for groundnut, sesame, and livestock production. The region played a key role during the colonial era as a transit point between northern and southern emirates.
